What I Packed in My Hospital Bag for Baby Number 2

DISCLAIMER: I know this isn’t speech related, but I decided I am going to share a little more “life” stuff here on the itty bitty blog during this postpartum period in an attempt to feel a little more connected and a little less alone. So if you aren’t interested in baby related content feel free to skip this one, if you’re curious keep reading what I Packed in My Hospital Bag for Baby Number 2

I absolutely LOVED reading “what I packed in my hospital bag” blogs and watching YouTube videos during both of my pregnancies. It felt like a little bit of control in the sea of unknowns that is childbirth. I created this list as I was packing for the hospital for my daughter, but I am writing this blog post after her birth (with her snuggled up on my chest) so I can tell you what I used, what I did not use, and what I wish I had

Also, this is just what I packed for myself. I packed a separate mini diaper bag with baby girl’s stuff, coming soon in a separate post!

I packed everything in this bag from lulibebe. It is BIG and although I got it specifically for a hospital bag, I am excited to use it as my overnight bag moving forward because I was due for one!

I used this toiletry bag to pack all of my toiletries. In my opinion it is the PERFECT size and has the perfect amount of pockets.

Toiletries I packed (and what I used)

  • Shampoo, Conditioner (did not wash my hair, did not use this)
  • Body Wash (used this)
  • Face Wash and Moisturizer (used these)
  • Deodorant (used A LOT of this)
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste (used these)
  • Lotion and Lip Balm (Used a Lot of this, hospital air is DRY)
  • Hair Brush and Hair Ties (used these)
  • Makeup (did not touch this)
  • LIghted Makeup Mirror (did not use this)

Clothes I Packed (and what I wore)

  • My own labor and delivery robe – I brought my own last time too and tbh I loved how comfortable I felt in it. This is not necessary but I do not regret it at all,
  • A lightweight robe – after changing out of my gown, there were still a lot of checks and belly squishes happening so this robe was comfy and easy to wear for about 12 hours. I am glad I brought it.
  • Another robe – I got this robe to match the first photo outfit for my daughter. TBH, I wish I would have brough another pair of jammies with me rather than this robe, after about 12 hours I was ready to be wearing pants, but I did wear it.
  • Comfy bamboo jammies – these are 10/10. Comfy, moisture wicking, and button down. Very glad I brought these and wish I would have brought another pair
  • Going home outfit – I brought a pair of leggings in one size bigger than my normal size, a nursing tank, and a nursing hoodie. The hoodie was a bit thick, although comfy. If i was packing again I would have packed one of my favorite postpartum henley shirts instead.
  • Slippers and slides (cheap ones, in case they get gross) – I am actually not a germaphobe, so I mostly walked around the hospital room barefoot so for me I wouldn’t pack them again. However, if you are in any way a germaphobe definitely pack one or the other or both!
  • Nursing Bras – I packed 2 of the sleep bras from target and one of the camis to wear home. Target makes my absolute favorite nursing bras and tanks and these are 10/10
  • Fuzzy socks – I did not wear these AT ALL. I was far too hot, even in the dead of winter in the midwest. The only time I put socks on was to go home.

Other Things I Packed

  • Portable Fan – I used this a LOT both during labor and after. Plus it can then be used as a stroller fan for baby
  • A pillow from home – 100/10 recommend bringing your own pillow, trust me. You’re gonna spend A LOT of time in that hospital bed and hospital pillows SUCK. Plus sneaking in a couple hours of sleep is much easier when you have a comfy piillow and trust me you’re gonna need it.
  • A blanket from home – same goes with the blanket. Hospital blankets suck. Trust me and bring your own.
  • My boppy pillow – if you plan on nursing, there is a learning curve and just having a nursing pillow is SO helpful rather than trying to precariously stack hospital pillows

Things I Wish I Packed

  • More snacks! My daughter was 3 weeks early, so it was on my to do list to pack some more snacks and I never got to it. But inevitably you are going to be starving when the hospital cafeteria is not open
  • My own water cup bottle – the hospital will probably give you cups but they are crap at keeping water cold and I like my water ice cold.
