Informal Language Assessment FAQs

I honestly have NEVER poured so much into any resource I have created for TPT, ever.  I created it because I NEED it desperately, this year especially, so I thought some of you probably did too. This year I’ve had way more evaluations than I ever have had in my career.

It’s a combo of changing laws in my state and a ton of kids who weren’t identified during the pandemic. I’m also needing more specific info for present levels in IEPs.

So I’ve been scrambling to pull informal assessment and screeners that I own, mixed with therapy materials and pieces of scratch paper and I have some gripes…

First off, why did I create this assessment? Well… I had a few gripes with my current assessment library, mainly…

👎🏻forever long record forms, ain’t nobody got time for staples
👎🏻only one item per skill, I want some baseline data! (And to know if that was a lucky guess or an uncharacteristic miss)
👎🏻no built in scaffolding (I want to know if visuals help, how many?)
👎🏻 not enough examples of concepts (sure, they know big/little, but what about few? Most? Tall?)
👎🏻Crummy pictures. I hate crummy pictures. I’m kind of a clip art snob 🤣 that might just be me though…

But what does it include…? Well, it includes a lot!

You can choose a printable assessment book, no print PDF, or a bundle of both. They all include a clear concise record form, an evaluation report template, and a self generating Excel sheet that essentially writes your report for you!

FAQs

How much does it cost?

The printable version is $12.00, the no print is $15.00, a bundle of both is $19.00

What age is it for?

It was intended for Pre-K-2nd, but can be used for older students (up to 5th grade) if they have more severe delays. I suggest reading the assessed skills to see if it is appropriate for your student

Does it have cut off score (or ages of acquisition, success criteria, etc)?

No, it is not normed or standardized. It is intended for you to collect data. You must use your clinical judgement to make evaluation and goal decisions.

How long does it take to administer?

Highly depends on the student in front of you. It has taken me as little as 30 minutes and more than an hour. Since it is not standardized you do not have too give the entire assessment if time is a concern.

How should I prep it?

I suggest printing and putting it in a binder (potentially in sheet protectors) or splurging and having it printed and bound at Office Depot or Staples
